Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a primary care, autonomous, evidence-based, client-focused health profession dedicated to improving quality of life. Physiotherapy is anchored in movement sciences and aims to enhance or restore function of multiple body systems.
Physiotherapy involves a detailed past medical history and discussion regarding the primary compliant, assessment of movement, strength, a neurological exam and functional movement patterns to determine impairments that require focus and improvement. A biomechanical diagnosis is reviewed with the client, along with education including a physiotherapy treatment plan with the patient’s personal goals in mind.
This holistic approach incorporates a broad range of physical and physiological therapeutic interventions including education, therapeutic exercise, manual therapy/manipulation, soft tissue/neural mobilization, acupuncture/dry needling, and functional retraining of gait, ergonomic, running and sport specific movement patterns and postures.
Physiotherapists are called upon to:

- Prevent disease, injury, and disability;
- Manage acute and chronic conditions, activity limitations, and participation restrictions;
- Improve and maintain optimal functional independence and physical performance;
- Rehabilitate injury and the effects of disease or disability with therapeutic exercise programs and other interventions;
- Educate and plan maintenance and support programs to prevent re-occurrence, re-injury or functional decline.
