Dry Needling
Trigger Point Dry Needling (TDN) involves the insertion of fine, solid needles into tight irritable skeletal muscles that may be contributing to pain or dysfunction of the body. The needles used are solid and don’t inject any fluid into your body. This is the reason the treatment is referred to as “dry”.
The goal of TDN is to release tension in these trigger points, thereby helping
reduce pain, increase blood flow, reduce muscle tightness and promote
healing.
The needles used in this technique are similar to those used in Acupuncture but
the philosophy behind it and the technique used are different. The number and
location of needles used will vary based on your condition and treatment goals.
The needle is inserted directly in the muscle and may be manipulated or moved to stimulate a twitch response, which can help release tension and promote healing.
Dry needling may be used to treat many musculoskeletal conditions, including
shoulder pain, rotator cuff pain, biceps tendinitis, iliotibial band syndrome,
Achilles tendinitis, low back pain, tennis elbow, whiplash or neck pain, headaches, muscle strains, hip pain, temporomandibular pain, and more.
Trigger Point Dry Needling is typically used in conjunction with other physical
therapy techniques such as manual therapy or exercise, and is considered safe when performed by a trained and licensed practitioner. TDN should be a part of a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.
